By Mira Chen β The NPCs of Sun Haven are not just background decoration. They run the shops, teach skills, sell gear, and can even become marriage partners. After digging through every character page on the official Sun Haven Wiki (wiki.gg) and cross-referencing the data across 23 romanceable characters, one thing stands out: the friendship system in this game is more nuanced than most guides suggest. This guide covers how gifting actually works, which gifts each Sun Haven town NPC loves and hates, where to find them during the day, and how to go from stranger to spouse.
All data in this guide is sourced from the official Sun Haven Wiki (sunhaven.wiki.gg) as of July 2026. Game mechanics may change with future updates.

How Friendship and Gifting Actually Work

Before covering specific NPCs, there are several mechanics that trip up new players β and that most quick-reference guides get wrong.
Who can receive gifts? Only romanceable NPCs. Non-romanceable characters like Bernard (Town Administrator) and Peter (Fisherman) will not accept gifts. If trying to hand Bernard an item and nothing happens, that is why. The wiki confirms that gifting is restricted to romance candidates only.
The two-gifts-per-week rule. Each romanceable NPC accepts a maximum of two gifts per week. This is the single most important constraint to understand. Friendship cannot be ground by dumping items on someone every day. Plan gifts around this limit β a loved gift twice a week is far more efficient than a liked gift daily.
Heart progression. All characters start with a friendship cap of 10 hearts. Hearts are raised through gifts and dialogue. Non-romanceable NPCs show no heart indicator until reaching 5 hearts (at which point they send an in-game mail). Romanceable NPCs display hearts from the start.
How dating works. Once 10 hearts are reached with a romanceable NPC and at least 7 dialogue cycles have been completed, dating can begin by gifting a Love Letter. The Love Letter costs 25 Community Tokens and is purchased from Town Hall. It does not count toward the weekly gift limit, so it can be given and then another gift immediately. Dating raises the heart cap to 15.
How marriage works. After dating, reach 15 hearts and exhaust all dating dialogue cycles. The final dating dialogue hints that the character is ready for marriage. At that point, gift an Engagement Ring (100 Community Tokens, also from Town Hall). The wedding takes place the following day at 4 PM at the dragon fountain β talk to Bernard to start the ceremony. After marriage, the heart cap increases to 20, and a unique Wedding Ring with combat stats is received.
There is no jealousy. Multiple NPCs can be dated simultaneously. Only one can be married at a time, but there is no penalty for having multiple dating partners.
Sun Haven Town NPCs: Who They Are and What They Love
The core Sun Haven town has 10 notable NPCs. Of these, 8 are romanceable and 2 are not. Here is a breakdown of each one, including their loved gifts, their daily schedule, and practical gifting advice.
Anne (General Store Owner)
Anne runs the General Store and a Traveling Exotics Shop β she is the one visited for most basic supplies. She has a pet lizard named Duke. She is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Cheesecake, Diamond, Fancy Grape Juice, Fancy Hot Dog, Persian Love Cake, Shimmeroot, Small Money Bag, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types (Hyacinth, Orchids, Peonies, Roses, Tulips).
Disliked gifts: Catfish, Coal, Copper Ore, Stone, and all Rusty tools.
Practical advice: Cheesecake is the best craftable loved gift here. Diamonds are universally strong but expensive early on. Avoid giving any rusty tools or raw ores β she will not appreciate them.
Schedule: Starts at her stall at 6:00 AM, moves to the General Store at 7:30 AM, visits the Wandering Merchant Stalls at 11:30 AM, stops by the Record Store at 1:00 PM and the Pet Store at 2:00 PM, then heads to the Tavern at 3:00 PM. She is back home by 6:30 PM.
Bernard (Town Administrator)
Bernard manages Town Hall, sells the Engagement Ring and Love Letter, and conducts wedding ceremonies. He has been in Sun Haven since Lucia was a child. He is not romanceable and will not accept gifts.
Schedule: Stays at Town Hall all day, every day, regardless of weather. The easiest NPC to find when romance items need to be purchased.
Lucia (Archmage)
Lucia is the Archmage and de facto leader of Sun Haven, blessed with magic by the Sun Dragon Elios. She works at a desk in Town Hall. She is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Cream Seltzer, Fire Crystal, Fizzy Seltzer, Large Mana Tome, Small Mana Tome, Sunite Ore, Tikka Masala, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types.
Disliked gifts: Blizzard Berry, Blizzard Berry Stew, Brr-Nana, Candy Cane, Earth Crystal, Snow Ball, Snow Pea, Spiced Cocoa, Water Crystal. Notice the pattern β she hates cold and ice items.
Practical advice: Lucia has the clearest thematic preference of any NPC. If it is fire-related, lava-related, or spicy, she probably loves it. If it is frozen or icy, she hates it. Tikka Masala is a craftable loved gift that is relatively accessible once the right ingredients are available.
Schedule: At home until 8:00 AM, then at her Town Hall desk until 10:00 AM. Moves to the picnic table outside Lynn’s House at 10:00 AM, then to the Library at 1:30 PM, back to Town Hall at 3:00 PM, to her backyard at 7:30 PM, and home by 9:00 PM.
Liam (Baker)
Liam runs the Sun Haven Bakery and is raising his younger sisters. He is shy and came to town specifically to provide for his family. He is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Coffee, Demon Coffee, Hot Chocolate, any Chef Hat (Black, Blue, Pink, Red, White), all five Forgotten Bouquet types, and all Giant Plushies (Bunny and Teddy variants).
Disliked gifts: Anything spicy β Cinnaberry, Greenspice, Pepper, Red Veggie Soup, Spicy Catsup, Spicy Ramen, Spicy Shrimp Ramen, and Sweet and Spicy Shrimp.
Practical advice: Coffee is the easiest loved gift for Liam. It can be bought or crafted, and it is inexpensive. His schedule changes between seasons β he takes his sisters to school during Spring through Fall, so he is harder to find midday on school days. In Winter, he stays at the Bakery longer.
Schedule (SpringβFall): Bakes outside from 7:00 AM, takes his sisters to the library (school) at noon, picks them up at 4:00 PM, and is at the Bakery from 5:00 PM. Home by 8:00 PM.
Jun (Town Counselor and Teacher)
Jun teaches at the Library and serves as the town counselor. Born and raised in Sun Haven. She is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Berry Fruit Salad, Blueberry Salad, Chicken Noodle Soup, Citrus Salad, Cobb Salad, Hydrangea Cupcake, Lotus, Painted Egg, Pickled Veggie Salad, Potato Salad, Sesame Rice Ball, Spring Roll, Tea, Tomato Salad, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types.
Disliked gifts: All Swords, all Crossbows, plus universally disliked items. Weapons should not be given to Jun as a gift.
Practical advice: Jun likes healthy food and tea. When already cooking meals for farming buffs, salads and soups are easy loved gifts to make in bulk. Tea is another straightforward option.
Schedule: Visits the pond outside her house at 7:00 AM, then the Elios Fountain at 8:30 AM, Wornhardt’s Hospital area at 10:30 AM, and the Library from noon. In Winter, she goes to the Bakery in the morning instead of the fountain.
Catherine (Town Witch)
Catherine is the Town Witch (an Amari rabbit-folk) who runs the Farming Store. She sells seeds, fertilizer, and farming tools. She is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Berry Pie, Blue Moon Fruit, Carrot Cake, Carrot Juice, Lavender, Mushroom Pie, Pumpkin, Shimmeroot, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types and Glorite/Sunite Watering Cans.
Disliked gifts: All Fish, Meat, Steak, Chicken Noodle Soup, Creamy Beef Stew. As an Amari rabbit-folk, she is not a fan of meat or fish.
Practical advice: Catherine’s preferences are farm-friendly. Berry Pie is easy to mass-produce, and she also loves watering cans β if a spare Glorite Watering Can is available, it doubles as a loved gift. Avoid any fish or meat products entirely.
Schedule: Waters her plants at 6:00 AM, then moves between the Farming Store (1:00 PM to 4:30 PM), Lynn’s House picnic bench (10:00 AM), and various spots around town. Home by 9:30 PM.
Nathaniel (Captain of the Guard)
Nathaniel is the Knight who keeps the peace in Sun Haven. He is dutiful and lets his responsibilities override his feelings. He is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Swords (Adamant, Copper, Glorite, Iron, Mithril, Sunite), armor sets (City Guard, Dragon Mail, Enchanted Light), Cream Seltzer, Hearty Pie, Lasagna, Mashed Potatoes, Pot Pie, Steak, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types.
Disliked gifts: Universally disliked items. He has a relatively broad taste β most weapons and hearty meals are safe bets.
Practical advice: Nathaniel is the easiest NPC to gift when doing any combat. Any sword crafted or found can be given to him. Hearty Pie and Lasagna are loved foods that are straightforward to cook. No need to overthink his gifts.
Claude (Composer)
Claude is a reclusive musical prodigy who lives in the large house north of Kitty’s farm. He is strongly implied to be a vampire (coffin bed, blood-themed preferences, hates garlic). He is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Apple Pie, Red Veggie Soup, Tomato, Tomato Bread, Tomato Juice, Tomato Salad, Tomato Soup, Vampire Piranha, Vampire Squid, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types and all Records.
Disliked gifts: Garlic, Glass of Pure Water, Steak, Wood Plank. Yes, the vampire hints are real β do not give Claude garlic or wooden items.
Practical advice: Claude is one of the most entertaining NPCs to befriend because of his personality, but his gift preferences are oddly specific. Tomatoes and tomato-based dishes are the best craftable options. If a Vampire Piranha or Vampire Squid is caught, hold onto it for him. And seriously β no garlic.
Schedule: On sunny days, he is at his piano by 8:30 AM, at his desk at 10:30 AM, by the clothing store water at 1:00 PM, at the Record Store at 4:00 PM, and the Tavern at 6:30 PM. On rainy days, he stays in bed until 1:00 PM, which means losing most of the day for gifting.
Lucius (Attendant to the Moon)
Lucius is an elven NPC from Nel’Vari who works at the Temple of the Moon. He is playful and obsessed with the moon and nighttime. He is romanceable.
Loved gifts: Berry Cake, Berry Pie, Blue Moon Fruit, Blueberry Cake, Blueberry Pie, Blueberry Smoothie, Candelabra, Enchanted Iron Bar, Firefly Jar, Magically Delicious Drink, Magma Star, Moon Cake, Moon Cream, Moon Cream Pie, Moonfish, Star Fruit, Starfish, plus all five Forgotten Bouquet types.
Disliked gifts: Gold Bar, Gold Ore, Orange (and all orange items β Orange Cream Cake, Orange Jam, Orange Juice), Sun Orb, Sunfish, Sunflower (and seeds), Sunite Bar/Ore. Notice the pattern β he hates sun-themed and gold items, the opposite of his moon theme.
Practical advice: Lucius has the most thematic dislike list in the game. If it glows like the sun or is gold-colored, keep it away from him. Moonfish and Star Fruit are the best bets for loved gifts. Berry Pie works on both him and Catherine, making it a solid multi-NPC option.
Schedule: By the water near the farm at 6:00 AM, walks to the Tavern at 8:30 AM, goes home at 10:00 AM, walks to the river by the grand tree at 6:00 PM, then home by 9:30 PM. He has an unusual reverse schedule compared to most NPCs.
Peter (Fisherman)
Peter runs the Fishing Store on the Beach and gives the first fishing rod. He is a goofy, fun-loving sailor. He is not romanceable and will not accept gifts.
Schedule: On sunny days, he alternates between fishing at various spots (docks, lake, river) and manning his store. On rainy days, he starts at the store and moves to the Beach by noon.
Universal Gift Strategy: What Works on Everyone

The wiki confirms that certain items are universally loved or liked by all romanceable NPCs. If a single item is desired that works on almost everyone, a Forgotten Bouquet is the safest bet β all five types are loved by every romanceable NPC in Sun Haven. Beyond that, most NPCs have specific preferences that override universal rules, so individual preferences should always be checked before spending valuable items.
Here is a practical tier list for gifts that hit multiple NPCs:
| Gift | Works On | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Forgotten Bouquet (any type) | All 23 romanceable NPCs | The ultimate safe gift, loved by everyone |
| Berry Pie | Catherine (loved), Claude (liked), Lucius (loved) | Easy to craft, covers multiple NPCs |
| Coffee | Liam (loved) | Cheap and buyable, perfect for Liam specifically |
| Cheesecake | Anne (loved) | Craftable loved gift for Anne |
| Salads (Berry, Blueberry, Citrus, etc.) | Jun (loves all salads) | Jun is the salad customer β stock up |
| Any Sword | Nathaniel (loved), Jun (disliked!) | Great for Nathaniel, never give to Jun |

Romance, Dating, and Marriage: The Full Process

Step 1: Build Friendship to 10 Hearts
Talk to the target NPC every day and give two loved gifts per week. Dialogue cycles also contribute to friendship. At 5 hearts, non-romanceable NPCs will send mail. Romanceable NPCs show hearts from the start.
Step 2: Start Dating
Once 10 hearts are reached and at least 7 dialogue cycles have been completed, purchase a Love Letter from Town Hall for 25 Community Tokens. Gift it to the NPC β this does not count toward the weekly gift limit. After dating begins, the heart cap increases to 15 and new dialogue cycles unlock.
Step 3: Complete Date Events
Each romanceable NPC has two date event cutscenes plus one late-night event, triggered through conversation cycles. If an NPC asks on a date and the invitation is accepted, a quest appears telling where and when to meet. If more than one in-game hour late, the NPC leaves and the event is missed permanently β it cannot be redone even with a Memory Loss Potion.
Step 4: Propose
Reach 15 hearts, exhaust all dating dialogue cycles, and watch for the hint that the character is ready for marriage. Purchase the Engagement Ring from Town Hall for 100 Community Tokens and gift it. If not ready, the ring goes back to inventory β nothing is lost.
Step 5: Wedding
The ceremony happens the next day at 4 PM at the dragon fountain. Talk to Bernard to begin. Backing out at the last minute is possible. After the wedding, a unique Wedding Ring with combat stats is received, the heart cap increases to 20, and the spouse moves into the house.
What Marriage Actually Gets Players
After marriage, a few things change:
- The spouse moves into the house and sleeps in the bed
- Access to their house is available at any time, including before 8 AM and after 8 PM
- The spouse sometimes gives a gift in the morning when waking up
- Additional dialogue cycles unlock with new conversations
- A unique Wedding Ring with combat-related stats is received (each spouse gives a different ring)
- The relationship cap increases from 15 to 20 hearts
- A child can be adopted after progressing the relationship further
The Wedding Ring stats vary by NPC. Claude’s Wedding Ring, for example, gives +500 Gold Per Day and +15 Health. Darius’s gives +500 Gold Per Day, +35 Tickets Per Day, and combat stats. These rings are worth pursuing even from a pure min-max perspective.
Items to Avoid: Disliked Gifts That Cost Friendship
Giving a disliked gift not only wastes the weekly gift slot but actively hurts friendship progress. Here are the most common mistakes:
- Do not give Claude Garlic, Wood Planks, or Glass of Pure Water. His vampire-themed dislikes are real.
- Do not give Catherine any Fish or Meat. As an Amari rabbit-folk, she will not appreciate it.
- Do not give Jun any Swords or Crossbows. She dislikes all weapons.
- Do not give Lucius anything gold, orange, or sun-themed. He loves moon/night items and hates the opposite.
- Do not give Lucia anything cold or icy. Blizzard Berries, Snow Balls, and Spiced Cocoa are all hated.
- Do not give Liam anything spicy. He hates Pepper, Cinnaberry, and all spicy ramen variants.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can players date multiple NPCs at the same time?
A: Yes. Sun Haven has no jealousy system. As many romanceable characters as desired can be dated simultaneously. Only one can be married to at a time, but there is no penalty for dating around.
Q: Why can players not give a gift to Bernard or Peter?
A: Only romanceable NPCs accept gifts. Bernard and Peter are not romance candidates, so the gifting mechanic does not work on them. Focus gift-giving efforts on the 23 romanceable NPCs.
Q: How many gifts can players give per week?
A: Each romanceable NPC accepts a maximum of two gifts per week. The Love Letter and Engagement Ring do not count toward this limit.
Q: What happens if players miss a date event?
A: If more than one in-game hour late to a date event, the NPC leaves and the event is missed permanently. It cannot be redone, even with a Memory Loss Potion. The quest will disappear from the log.
Q: Can players divorce and remarry someone else?
A: Yes. Bernard at Town Hall processes divorces. The Wedding Ring from the previous marriage is kept. Then someone else can be proposed to.
Q: What are Keepsakes?
A: Each romanceable NPC gives a unique Keepsake item at a certain point in their dialogue cycle. These items go in the Keepsake equipment slot and provide combat buffs. Even if the relationship is reset with a Memory Loss Potion, the Keepsake is kept. After romancing an NPC, their Keepsake becomes purchasable from Bernard at Town Hall.
Q: Do rainy days change NPC schedules?
A: Yes. Some NPCs have different rainy-day schedules. Claude, for example, stays in bed until 1:00 PM on rainy days. Peter moves to the Beach instead of fishing at his usual spots. Always check the weather before planning a gift route.
Q: How can players get Community Tokens for the Love Letter and Engagement Ring?
A: Community Tokens are earned through completing quests, particularly Bulletin Board quests posted in town. Save them up β 25 are needed for a Love Letter and 100 for an Engagement Ring.
