By Mira Chen — My first house had a stove next to the bed and a wardrobe blocking the door. This is the layout guide I desperately needed.
The 4-Tile Walkway Rule
You need at least 4 clear tiles between major furniture pieces for your character to walk comfortably. I discovered this when I placed a sofa too close to my stove and could not reach the stove to cook. Had to demolish the sofa. Lost 400 gold.
The Starter Room Layout That Works
Left wall: bed (2 tiles) with 1 tile gap to the wall. Right wall: 2 stoves side by side (craft the second one) with prep counter next to them. Center: 4-tile clear walkway. Corners: cat bed in one corner, storage chest in the other.
This layout handles everything you need for the first month: sleeping, cooking, storing. It is not pretty but it works perfectly.
What I Regret Buying
The 3-tile sofa. It took up half the room and served no function. The matching dining set. The decorative rug that my cat ignores. Total wasted gold on useless furniture: roughly 2,400 gold. Buy functional items first. Decorations wait until you have multiple rooms.
Mira has redesigned her house 4 times and still regrets the 800 gold plant pot. Layout ideas at discord.gg/heartopia-players.
