Heartopia Cat Raising Guide: How to Adopt, Care for & Bond with Your Cats

By Mira Chen — I have one cat on my main account. Her name is Mochi, she is a calico with a lazy personality, and she has brought me roughly 15,000 gold worth of passive income over my playtime. Cat raising is the slowest hobby in Heartopia but the only one that pays you back while you are offline.

The Adoption Mistake I Made

I adopted Mochi before I had crafted her furniture. The game lets you do this. Do not. Your cat will sulk in the corner of your empty room looking miserable and it is genuinely upsetting. Craft the bed, bowl, and box first. All three are basic workbench recipes. It takes about 15 minutes of foraging for materials.

Food Quality Actually Matters (Tested)

I tracked Mochi’s bond progression with different food types. Here is what I found:

Store-bought cat food: about +10 bond per feeding. Reaching Bond Level 4 takes roughly 30 days at this rate. Fine if you are patient.

Cooked fish dishes (any fish, cooked): about +15-20 bond per feeding. Reaching Bond 4 takes roughly 18-20 days. Better, and fish is easy to come by.

Premium crafted food (Salmon Cat Treat, Tuna Feast, Lobster Delight): about +25-35 bond per feeding. Reaching Bond 4 takes roughly 12 days. Fastest, but requires rare fish ingredients.

I used store-bought food for the first week because I did not know better. Switching to cooked fish cut my Bond 4 timeline by about 10 days. The difference is real.

What Bond Level 4 Actually Gives You

At Bond 4, your cat starts bringing daily gifts. Over 30 days of tracking, Mochi brought: 8 rare mushrooms (about 200 gold each), 4 gold nuggets (300-500 gold each), 12 common crafting materials, and 6 pieces of random fish. Total value: roughly 4,500 gold over 30 days. About 150 gold daily on average. Not a gold printer, but completely passive income that requires zero effort once the bond is established.

Multiple Cats: The Math

Each additional cat costs about 3,000 gold in furniture plus ongoing food. A second cat at Bond 4 provides the same passive income as the first: about 150 gold daily. Break-even on the 3,000 gold investment: roughly 20 days. Worth it long-term, but not a priority in your first month when that 3,000 gold could go toward land expansion or a Professional Fishing Rod.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many cats should I have? One for the first month. A second cat after you have stable daily income (4,000+ gold per day). The passive income is nice but the upfront cost delays other progress.

What is the best cat personality? Curious cats bring better foraging gifts. Lazy cats bond faster through grooming instead of play. Playful cats bond faster through toy sessions. There is no “best” — pick the personality that matches how you play.

Do I need to feed my cat every day? Bond level does not decrease if you miss a day, but your cat will be visibly unhappy. Daily feeding is ideal. I missed about 3 days in my first month due to travel and Mochi was fine.

Can cats help with gardening? At Bond Level 3+, cats occasionally chase away small garden pests. It is not reliable enough to replace manual pest control, but it helps.
